Hi,
I have recently joined this site and I have to say for the short time I have been here I have found it very useful indeed so keep up the good work!
I have read a few blogs concerning CSA payments, I am a NRP and I have 2 girls aged 15 and 19, I had agreed to pay half towards the mortgage instead of worrying about the CSA so it was agreed as a ''family arrangement'' but my wife decided she didn't want this and contacted the CSA. I didn't mind as for one I always wanted to provide for my kids and she has ended up getting a lot less as I pay £70 a week for both. My question is however does the payment only reflect my earnings (10% of my take home pay for each child), my wife receives her pay plus around £150 a week in child/working tax credits plus my CSA money. so could I be paying less? or does what she gets not matter?
thanks in advance 🙂
Hi there 🙂
Thanks for the feedback, its good to know that we are getting it right! 🙂
To answer your question, it doesn't matter what her income is and it has no effect on the amount you pay, which as you know is entirely dependant on how much you earn. 🙂
Hello Mode57
Thank you for your post. I am William, the Child Maintenance Options consultant. I can give you some information about child maintenance that may help you.
The Child Support Agency (CSA) works out child maintenance using four rates and the rate that is to be paid would be based on your net weekly income. This includes earnings, money from an occupational or personal pension and tax credits. They use the amount of income left after deductions such as Income Tax, National Insurance and any money paid into a personal pension scheme. The CSA will take into account other factors, such as any children that live in your household, but this would not include your wife's income. You can find further information about the rates and how the CSA calculates maintenance at www.Gov.uk.
To give you an indication of how child maintenance is calculated through the CSA, there is an online calculator on our website at http://www.cmoptions.org/en/calculator/calculator.asp.
We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful, it offers help and support to separated families. You can find this at http://www.cmoptions.org/en/sortingoutseparation/index.asp.
If you would like to talk to our team in complete confidence about child maintenance you could give us a ring on 0800 988 0988. We also have some other useful tools on our website to help support separated parents.
