[Solved] csa overpayment

csa advised me recently that my responsibility to pay child maintenance ended 6 months ago when my youngest started work. The direct debit payable to them continued until I just cancelled it. The letter states that they would evaluate and contact me but this was weeks ago. Are they legally bound to pay the amount back to me? I have a horrible feeling that they would say sort it out with my ex which would be a non starter!
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi there 🙂

I'm not sure about being legally bound to repay the overpayment but I have heard of instances where a refund has been issued. Like any Government body they will take their time to reimburse you I'm sure. It might be a good idea to give them a call and find out where you actually stand....sometimes it helps to be proactive! 😉

With the CSA, you definitely need to be proactive, and regularly so - keep on at them for the refund as you can be certain they'd have done so if you owed them money.

Hi nick01.

Thank you for your post. My name is William. I am the Child Maintenance options consultant.

Here at Child Maintenance Options we provide free impartial information and support to parents and anyone else with an interest in child maintenance.

As Nannyjane has said, you would need to contact the Child Support Agency (CSA).

You can find contact details on any letter the CSA have sent to you. Or, you can find the right number here: https://www2.dwp.gov.uk/csa/v2/en/contact/index.asp
