If I was to look after my kids for two weeks becausee their mum wants to get away, am I in my rights to ask her to give me some maintainance money towards the childrens food?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there

There's nothing to say that you can't ask for help to cover your extra outgoings whilst you have your children... I don't think there's anything official that say she has to contribute though.

Hello sleightofand

As Mojo mentioned, you could ask your children’s mum to contribute financially towards your children’s everyday living cost whist they are in your care. However, child maintenance is generally payable to the main carer of your children.

For more information on the different ways to set up child maintenance and for a more personalised service, you can visit the Child Maintenance Options website at http://www.cmoptions.org.

The DWP have a sorting out separation website that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: https://www.sortingoutseparation.org.uk.

Regards

William
