I live in the UK,Work in Norway for a Norwegian company which does not have an office in the UK,I am paid in Norwegian Currency and Pay Norwegian Tax.

I have no UK income

Where do I stand with the CSA?

We have a family based arrangement in place at the moment which has been working fine but now I dont get to see my child and my Ex is going the CSA route.

This is the info I have found by myself but not sure whether it applies to me:-

overseas earnings if these are taxable in the United Kingdom.

Thank you
Declan

I don't think you will have to pay, there was a guy in your position over on mse forums but he doesn't use the forum anymore, you could search for his posts, his username was Kevin37 I think

You may work and be paid in Norway, but your permanent residence is in the UK, then your legally required to declare this to HMRC. Then they will determine wether you should be paying UK tax on at least a percentage of your wages.

The above will depend on how many days you sleep in the UK.

Thank you for the replies.

I am definite not liable for UK tax as I pay a higher percentage in Norway.I do have to declare foreign earnings on my tax return every year but they are not taxable in the UK.

I am still wondering if the CSA can take my foreign earnings into account.

I stay in the UK approx 200 nights a year,my employment and tax commitments are in Norway though

Thanks Huxley,I will have a search for Kevin37

Don't think so... They can only go by what they get from HMRC.
Just refuse to provide any info beyond you NI number. If HMRC unready declare that you have no taxable earnings.....

Hi there

Is Norway a member of the EU? Even if not they could well have a reciprocal agreement with the Uk with regards to child maintenance. If this is the case then you could find that you will be liable. Being a UK resident I think it would be difficult to get out of paying.

In my opinion if you are earning it is your responsibility to contribute to your child's upbringing. Contact and child support are separate issues here in the UK and one has no bearing on the other.

I've just had a quick google and Norway does have a reciprocal agreement, so in my opinion you will be required to pay maintenance. The CSA can apply for a court order to claim maintenance from you.
