Hi
In July last year I gave up my job and finacee due to stress over my divorce and other issues. But I was paying my child maintenance direct from my wages at £135 per week, which was fine. But when I gave up m y job the payments ceased.
I recently received a letter from the CSA stating I was £3400 in arrears. I rang to dispute this and was told that as I had not rang them to confirm my change in circumstances the debt stood. I explained that I wasnt working and could not pay the money but the lady stated that action is taken from the first phone call which was only last week.
I am asking anyone out there am I still liable for this money owing. I dont want my daughters to suffer and if needs be will pay but can someone please give me some advice.
Many thanks
Cliff67
hi
I'm afraid that the CSA are correct, they only change their assessments from the date they are notified of any change of circumstances so the assessment still continues at the same rate. If you are on benefits now, then they may not be able to go after you for the arrears as the moment, though the arrears won't go away, but worth speaking to the CSA again anyway to see if you can come to any agreement with them.
