Hi I am paying my wife who remarried several years ago child support through the CSA. I myself remarried 4 weeks ago. My new wife has 3 children but receives no shild support from their father because he is untraceable. Yesterday, I received a letter from the CSA saying that because I am now remarried they can take money from the basic state child allowance that the government pay my wife for help with her 3 children. They have asked me to disclose how much my wife gets for the 3 children so they can decide how much to take away to give it to my ex wife. This can not be right. The 3 children have nothing to do with me or my ex wife. Why can the CSA be allowed to do this to my new wife?
Any thoughts
Hi,
It's my understanding that your wife's income has no bearing on the amount you pay your ex wife.
The amount your wife receives might be affected by your marriage in the sense that your income will affect any benefits she receives though.
I would contact the CSA and CAB and ask them to explain this letter to you as I've never heard of this.
Thank you
