Hi All,
This is my 1st post on here so apologies for the long post and my English grammar..My God im so depressed i need help please if you can....I was taken to court in September 2006.because the CSA did a reassessment and i had not payed any of the £300 odd pounds of it.This was because they had been sending letters to the wrong address, they admit there mistake and i starting paying my maintenance of £5 per week from then onward. The CSA said to the judge,my mother who was there to.That they would not be pursuing any arrears of maintenance which may have accumulated between the period 1995 to 2001. Because the CSA had not sent any letters or they had gone to the wrong address or had not chased me up for the arrears and the court presenting officer admitted that as this was the CSA's fault, the CSA would be unable to correctly calculate alleged arrears due and therefore those arrears would be unrecoverable.......I got a letter beginning of 2017 saying my case of maintenance for my daughter had finished 2012..yes i know they told me 5 years to late,so if anything they owe me money back...Then i had the biggest shock of my life 2 weeks later another letter arrived saying i owe £19,500 arrears.....is there nothing i can do about this, why did they not take me to court month later after September 2006 if i really owe this, year later, five years later,or even 10 years later.....they want £188.3 a week.....well to start with i am only on £5,000 a year that self employed...i do get another £9,000 from letting 2 rooms out in my house, but back in 2006 the CSA where only interested in income from work not property,so i don't know if that still stands.and i do have a 2 year old son now and a partner, who's living with me,but she does not work as she looking after my son......i did call them, but all i was told was the old CSA at the time only went back to 2003...now they have taken over, they are going back to 1993..they did send me a brake down on what i owe,but not what information they had to get to that figure......i cannot believe this, is there anything i can do.....thank you

Hi there

Unfortunately this is becoming an all too familiar story, digging up old and sometimes wrong arrears from years past. The only thing I can suggest is to go and talk to your MP about this, hopefully they will be able to help.

You could try the official complaints procedure, or do it in tandem with contacting your MP.

All the best

If you want to complain to the Ombudsman, you will need a referral from your local MP or CAB. Hopefully, as Mojo says, your local MP will be able to help you.

Good luck
