Hi Guys
I really need some please . me and the children's mother split up 12 weeks ago. straight away she was asking for money, she has said she wants £200 pound per month for the 2 children. but I cannot physically pay it as it will leave me with £110 to live on for the month and that's not including food.
what do I do ? I have explained that it will leave me with that amount, her reply was that's not my problem and boohoo to you being skint, now pay. definitely no compromise on maintenance
Thanks
Sean
Take a look at this:
https://www.gov.uk/calculate-child-maintenance
This is what CMS will assess you as having to pay - if it's less than she's claiming, then open a case with them (costs £20 one off fee) and let them deal with it, and she can't demand any extra. If she's claiming the same or less, then I'm afraid there's not much you can do, if she goes to CMS, they will make you pay what they calculate.
