My daughter will be 18 in September and has just finished her first year of A-levels and did not do well on her mock exam. She has decided she now wants to do a BTEC for the next two years. Am I still responsible to pay my ex child maintenance?

hi,

child benefit office would ask your ex what she expects child to be doing. if she tells them that it will be 2 year BTEC, then child benefit will decide if thats approved education or not. if they approve it then child benefit will continue, and so will child maintenance. so you may have to pay maintenance until child turns 20, which is official cut-off age

according to their page, BTEC would not be approved education:

Courses are not approved if paid for by an employer or ‘advanced’, for example a university degree or BTEC Higher National Certificate.
