CMS Refunds and Benefits

Hi Guys.

I recently learnt that my cms case has been closed and I might be getting a refund.

At first i was quite excited as it's a fair amount of money but then I thought it could affect my universal credit.

I work p/t and get a top-up from UC.

If I were to get a fefund from CMS, would it affect my UC payments? Has anyone had any similar experiences. I know getting a tax refund from HMRC affects benefits as it's classed as income so does the same apply to a CMS refund?

Thanks!

hi,

as far as I know a refund from CMS will not affect benefits, as its not earnings.

@lukem If you have any concerns about it, you can log into your online UC account and send a message to them, and someone will get back to you.
