[Solved] CMS overpayments

Hello I’m new to the site and forum. I wondered if anyone could help me with some CMS info. I’ve reduced my hours at work which has changed my income. I’ve asked for a reassessment. So far this process has taken 4 months and ended up being rejected. The reason for this seems to be because I’ve done some freelance work self-employed. It was only about £400 income spread over 3 months. What they are saying is I need to provide accounts and projected earnings from a chartered accountant. I don’t have an accountant, it wouldn’t be worth it for such a small amount of income, I don’t need one. Anyway, HMRC say I’m not self-employed because I’ve not earned more than £1K this year. CMS currently will not believe what I’ve told them so I’m stuck paying maintenance on my full hours. Anyone else dealt with similar? If I overpay all year will it be taken into consideration for next years payments or do I just loose out?

I would ask them to look again and tell them what the HMRC have sai about self employment. If youre not satisfied you can open an appeal.

Some members ask their MPs for help when dealing with the CMS... it might be worth a try.

Best of luck
