Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.
Reporting a concern
It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.
The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

Hi - did you ever get clarity on this? i.e. the treatment of the lump sum?
thanks
hi, not on the lump sum, sorry
I did end up wriiting and complaining to the CMS, again gave them the contribution receipt and my payslips, drew out markings in MS paint breaking down my salary sacrifice, my payments, my employers payments, my pension provider receiving the funds and registering it, they could have done all this themselves!
it then went to a tribunal, it took ages and i think just last week i got a letter saying something (they would not give details) was 'in my favour' and to await processing
its a bit like a lottery with them I feel, have i got it or not?, what have i got?, what have i not got?!
thanks - nobody seems to know how tax-free lump sums are treated. Presumably not as taxable income as they are tax free?
Hi cjay - how come the lump sum was not subject to maintenance calculations? I get that it is 'tax-free', but that could just mean taxable at 0%, and still part of 'income' - was this confirmed with CMS?
Hi, new to the site, but reading through, it is actually uplifting to see that I am not the only one that feels like the CMS treat them like a criminal every time I call
Wont go into detail, but split 10 years ago, ex left me with £100K of debt to pay, nearly went bankrupt, she has used the CMS every chance to hurt me, was seeing my son regularly and paying £540 each month, I know car allowance and BIK on P11D screwed me, income I never see, but hey, I am the dad, so guess I am to blame for everything
Son contacted me out of the blue, on ex email, don't want to see you anymore, he is 16, that day, ex applies to the CMS for change in shared care, my payments increase to £640!!!!
Please, anyone got experience of increasing pension contributions and how CMS dealt with this
hi,
with pensions, if you have workplace/employer pension scheme, then you don't need to tell CMS, as your employer makes the pension deductions, then CMS sees that information when they do annual review.
if you have private pension scheme, then you have to send info to CMS so they can calculate your maintenance.
check it CMS booklet, explains their pension policies:
here there is a guide for what is considered to be a reasonable amount of pension contributions:
