Hi There,

Hopefully someone out there that can offer some advice in relation to my CMS payments with the child shortly due to turn 18.

I’ve asked for proof that child will be remaining in full time education/college - To date the CMS haven’t wanted to disclose this information, but from what I can find online in could be that I have to continue paying until 19 & if said child remains in full time education/college ?

My question it does anyone have any experience or may have been in a situation of does or does it not (payments) stop at 18 ?

Google is hard to come to any concrete conclusion, hence my plea on here.

Any help, advice or information would be much appreciated.

hi,

You're normally expected to pay child maintenance until your child is 16, or until they're 20 if they're in school or college full-time studying for: A-levels. Highers, or. equivalent.

https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/family-and-care/divorce-and-separation/how-much-child-maintenance-should-i-pay#:~:text=Contacting%20the%20Child%20Maintenance%20Service&text=Yo u're%20normally%20expected%20to,equivalent.

it can be difficult if your not in contact with child. CMS seem to rely on the status of child benefit. They would expect you to continue paying maintenance as long a child benefit remains in place and child is in full-time education.
