I opted for the Child Maintenance to take money off me and deal with it.. They've taken nothing from me and the due date for the payment was two weeks ago?
I've got a feeling they will take x2 the amount next month and leave me with a big gap in my income?
Any idea what I should do? I know ringing them would be the obvious, but I don't want to engage with them? I already have an open complaint about someone who told me to "F**k Off* during a phone call.
Thanks
My advice would be to write to them (via recorded delivery) asking for a payment schedule whereby they set out when the money will be coming out each month.
As a precaution I WOULD STRONGLY ADVICE you to put aside the monthly amount that you are supposed to pay.
The arrears can easily build up to huge amounts in no time, and the CMS are legally enabled to demand payment arrears immediately. Even if the accumulation of said arrears is entirely due to their administrative error or incompetence.
In this respect you have to regard them like the Tax Office or any other statutory government agency.
They can demand monies immediately. And any money you owe them legally takes precedence over ANY other dept liabilities that you may have.
