Hey
My near 19yr old has formally quit university and took a full time job now. Hes making reasonable money and has started to pay his mother board on top of what i am currently paying. The consent order states i pay until he is 16yrs old or to the end of Tertiary education which now both have been reached.
His mother still believes i need to pay, even though he is also now paying her and no longer in higher education.
Am i able to simply stop paying or do i need to speak to the court or a solicitor to formally end the payments?
I have currently stopped them..
I also live outside of the UK permanently and only visit the uk once a year. I pay for my son to come & see me 2 to 3 times a year.
Thanks
Hi,
Child maintenance payments end when child leaves full-time education. It stops if child starts university. That's under child support laws. If you have been paying your ex as private arrangement, then easier for you to stop payments. I don't think you need to consult a lawyer.
