Hi all,
I am new to this CSA malarky as up until recently bridges were great between my ex and I ......i recently had a call from CSA stating my partner wanted payments direct through CSA .......i am self employed and my wages are commision only...so some weeks i earn nothing and others i earn over a 1000 pound.....how do they calculate my payments and more to the point if one week i earn nothing and cant pay that week payment ...what do i do......it all seems like a big money making scam for the CSA.......i have sent a txt to my ex partner to re-instate an agreement between ourselves but as yet had no reply.....
I have 2 wonderfull little boys who i am more than willing to provide for.......any help would be appreciated.

I would ring the CSA and speak to them about this - I would think (or hope) that they would base it on an average income over the year. To be fair to your ex and your children, your ex is probably more interested in a regular, known monthly payment rather than trying to get more money.

Hi There,

The way it works is they will send you out a form to fill in based on 3 months of income, it may be your next 3 months or last that bit I'm unsure of.

If it is the next 3 months they will set a standard amount about £35 a week from memory then when you submit you accounts to them they will then work out what you pay, it will stay at this amount up until they ask you again for 3 months worth of accounts to see if things have changed.

Hi Cross

Thank you for your post. I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. We are unable to comment on Child Support Agency (CSA) cases as we are a separate organisation and do not have access to your case information. However, you can find more information on how the CSA works out child maintenance on Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/how-child-maintenance-is-worked-out/how-the-child-support-agency-works-out-child-maintenance. If you have not done so already, you may also wish to contact the CSA directly to discuss your query. You can find the relevant contact details on any letters that you may have received or by visiting Gov.uk at https://www.gov.uk/child-maintenance/contact.

For more information on the ways to set up child maintenance, please visit our website at http://www.cmoptions.org. Alternatively, you can call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on a Saturday. We have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

Regards

William
