just after some advise really.
so since csa ended I've been paying my ex directly and she s been fine with this, until now
today I got a letter from child maintenance services telling email my ex had made a claim.
so can some one explain to me why's the use the amount you earn before tax and NI and not your take home pay, and that they also include any over time you work.
also on my letter is say an amount they estimate I'll pay each year but after talking to them on the phone it became a 4 digit figure and not a 3 digit figure.
I don't mind paying. but means now I'll not be able to do any with my son when I have him as I'll not be able to afford it.
please help thank you
Hi
CMS use 12% of the gross amount rather than the 15% of net amount that CSA use, and on incomes below about £25k, there isn't a great deal of difference between the two on how much you actually pay. If you get regular overtime, then it is included, but the CSA used to include that also, as far as I recall.
