Hi. Need some advice please.
been divorced 4 years now. Haven’t seen my son in that time at all. Haven’t heard from him at all. Tried to make contact but he doesn’t want to know at all.
X filed for divorce. Didn’t know she was cheating on me which she denied but surprise surprise marries him a year later.
she was very manipulative during the marriage and no doubt she’s had a hand in my son not seeing me.
fast forward to today. My son is now 17. Will my child maintenance stop if he goes uni next year.
I am on a decent wage but every month is tight as I’m paying off debt.
any help advice appreciated.
Hi,
Yes Child maintenance stops if child goes onto advanced education (uni).
Take look at this short clip:
Anyone aware of how to check what level of education a child is doing and till when, if you are not in touch with the parent (or child)? I'm in a situation where my son turned 16 in Feb and recently was written to by the CMS stating that when a child turns 16 the payments could stop (depending on certain criteria) or continue (assuming certain criteria is met from an education stand point).
It then goes on to say that CB stops (as does maintenance payments) when the child leaves school and does not go into further education BUT that is based on the parent contacting the CB agency and notifying them of that. i am not confident that the parent would do that as they would want any payments to continue for the foreseeable. I suspect that would be deemed fraud but I don't know how serious the Government would take it, given they are usually on the side of the mother....
Any advise would be appreciated.
Part of the issue is that unless the child goes into a job, legally now they have to stay in education or training until age 18.
Could someone clarify what date child maintenance would cease if my child finished A levels in July and is about to start University in mid September? Does Child maintenance still get paid until uni commences? Many thanks 👍
Hello,
I contacted the forum a while ago asking about the need to pay if my daughter doesn't perform well in further education and wishes to continue for another year (she's currently 18 and turns 19 in the autumn). I received an email from the CSA which said that I need to continue to pay if my ex-wife continues to receive child support. Will the CSA inform me if child support benefit is withdrawn? My ex-wife are not on good terms and I very much doubt that she'll volunteer this information. Thanks for any constructive advice you can give.
