[Solved] Child Maintenance question

My ex girlfriend has stopped my child staying with me as she doesn't get on with my wife.
Now she is demanding £200 a month which she says the CSA told her she is entitled to. I have called the CSA twice and been told completely different information on both occasions.
Can anyone tell me if the CSA payments take into account existing dependants and out goings before calculating the payment amount, as I cannot afford £200 per month.

Hi there

As far as I know they do take account of existing dependants, but they don't take account of your outgoings I'm afraid.

Here's a link to the CMS (CSA) calculator, it will give you a rough idea of what you should be expected to pay. They work this out as a percentage of your gross income, which for one child is 12%.

They can also make reductions to the amount if for instance you pay into a pension and they would also make a reduction for each night your child stays overnight with you. Could this be a reason for the mother to stop overnight stays?

Here's a link to their guidelines which explains things in more detail.

All the best.
