The CMS payment calculator asks how many nights per year I have my children, I have 2 kids however 1 of them stays with me significantly more often than the other, certainly in a different 'frequency rate' bracket than the calculator offers. As it calculates a general figure for me to pay as opposed to a 'per child' amount, am I right in assuming the differing number of nights per child won't have any impact and that it refers to how many nights I have either child overall?
Hi, I'm afraid I haven't come across that question before and can't seem to find anything online that will answer it clearly.
It might be worth giving CMO a call and they should be able to advise you on that.
Hello BobbyShazam
Child Maintenance Options are an impartial and confidential service that provides information on the different ways that child maintenance can be arranged, they do not put maintenance in place.
I have included a link on how the Child Maintenance Service works and how they calculate child maintenance that you may find useful, https://www.gov.uk/how-child-maintenance-is-worked-out/how-the-child-maintenance-service-works-out-child-maintenance.
For more information on all the different ways to set up child maintenance and for a more personalised service, you can visit the Child Maintenance Options website at http://www.cmoptions.org.
The DWP have a sorting out separation web-app that you may find useful. It offers help and support to separating and separated families. The link is: www.dad.info/divorce-and-separation/sorting-out-separation.

William
Hi thanks for that however it does not answer my question at all, it reads more like a generic copy and paste job....
I think I've only come across this once before, and there wasn't a satisfactory answer. The sensible way could be to calculate the number of nights overall for each child, add them together and divide by 2, but I'm not sure whether the CMS would do that - the best advice I can give is to ring the CMS to see what they say, and see if you can get anything in writing.
