Hi,
I am hoping someone may be able to help me as I am at a complete loss. I began paying the CSA in 2005. I paid £45 per week, directly from my wages up to 2011, when i became self employed. In 2011, myself and the mother of my son contacted them and advised we would no longer require them, as I was paying her directly. We heard nothing at all from them and assumed everything was fine. Last month, I got a letter from the Child Maintenance Service saying I owed £10k, from the period 2005-2011. I explained above, payments going directly from my wages until 2011 etc, and they are saying that I need to prove this! I have no wage slips from that time (who would??) and the company no longer exist! But because they CSA no longer exist, they have no record of it!! I am in the process of getting my tax returns from 2011 - 2015 from the tax office, so I can prove my income, as I understand that with me paying cash, I don't have a leg to stand on! but surely they have the records for it going directly to them from 2005-2011? I have asked them for a breakdown of how they have come to the 10k figure, for what years etc, and they won't provide it. I just don't know what to do!
Has anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone offer any advise? With all the other stress going on at the moment it's just a nightmare. Thank you.
