I have just recieved a letter from ni child maintenance services telling me my payments are in arrears, and I owe ยฃ3307.12. When I contacted them they said this dates back to from May 1999 to 2000. Even though the childs mother and I have had an agreement since then, and she has had no problems with the arrangement. They have always had my details and I have always worked for the same company the whole time. Surely they cant come back to me after 15 years and say they want this money now.
If you have a fairly civil relationship with the mother you could try and get a letter from her stating that you paid her privately during that time ...worth a go. ๐
We have a great relationship now, and she phoned them but they told her the arrears are payable to the secretary of states office,
Have you asked the how you can appeal this ? Why are the arrears payable to the secretary of states office ?
This is CSA1 - I think the system then (I may be wrong) that some of the maintenance was paid by the government and this was then owed back to them by the father.
