[Solved] Child maintenance 20003 scheme

Hi I have been separated from my ex and paying maintenance for years. She's always complained that I've not been paying her enough but I have been paying fairly as rules under the 2003 scheme. Six months ago I got a letter from the CSA saying i'd be moving to the 2012 scheme and I didn't think anything would change so carried on making the family agreed payments. But under the new rules I now find that my maintenance will go up by 70 a month. This is due to taking the gross and not the net income. Do I have any grounds to contest this or is this another way the government is squeezing money from people. From what I can tell I don't have a leg to stand on..... Is this true?

I'm afraid not, they are in the process of moving all cases under the two previous schemes into the new scheme, which is administered under the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). The new calculation is done on gross income as you say, if you have the child/children overnight they will make a reduction for this.

Thanks for the reply, it just doesn't seem right that they can change the payment terms and it jumps up so much. I've been paying fairly for years, it's just unfortunate as my payments had finally eased after one son left home. Only to realise that the system has changed so I'm more or less back to where I was for a few more years.

Unfair really.
Thanks for the reply.

It has moved to gross from net, but the percentages have gone down. I'd check their calculation to make sure it's correct, but the amount can change depending on your income.
