[Solved] Child Maintenance

I have recently become unemployed and have submitted a claim for JSA. My ex is demanding that I make payments upon receipt of these benefits but I am informed by more than one source that I am not legally obliged to pay maintenance whilst unemployed. Does anyone know if this is indeed the case?

I have never missed payments in the four years since separation whilst I have been in employment and have in fact overpaid to the tune of some £4,000.

I am also conscious that a large chunk of what I have paid over the years has not all been put my six year old daughter's way. I see clearly that my contributions have funded clothes, unnecessary home improvements, nights out etc. etc., all for the benefit of my ex who is continually crying "poor"...

If your ex were to go to the CSA they would deduct a flat rate of £5pw from your JSA. If you go to the Child Maintenance section you will find a sticky called " how does the CSA calculate payments" ...it links to a CSA leaflet, have a read and it will explain more about maintenance payments.
