Hi this is about the child benefit received from the government.
My ex wife and I have 50 50 joint custody of one child.
She earns £57k per year and receives the child benefit for our child
I earn under £50k per year.
She has been transferring me half the child benefit but now intends to pay less as she's been hit with the tax payback charge.
How is this meant to work? She intends to decrease my payment by 70% as this is the amount she has to pay back as she says she will pay tax on the whole amount received
I see it differently and that she should transfer me half which I don't have a tax liability on and she should pay 70% on her half by using the self assessment form to just declare her half.
I can't find the correct way to do it. Which is right?
Hi,
I think it would be more sensible for her to stop claiming CB and let you claim all of it. Then perhaps you can mutually agree to transfer some of it over to her if she needs it?
@bill337 yes I suggested this but she rejected it!
