[Solved] Child Benefit

Hi,

Recently separated and we have agreed that I will have the children for 3 nights out of 7. I need to pay her child maintenance- I can obviously use the calculator to work out the suggested minimum amount but my query relates to child benefit. This was previously paid into our joint account but it is now paid into my ex’s account. It seems fair to me that this figure (£140 every 4 weeks) is shared accordingly, I.e. 3/7 to me and 4/7 to my ex. I know the child benefit payment itself needs to be paid to one person but am going to suggest to my ex that we square it off between ourselves. Is this appropriate?

hi,

you could try suggest that to your ex. but she will probably reject it. try to keep things amicable so you don't end up going down the child maintenance service route.
