I could really use some advice!
I've been separated from my partner for nearly 3 years, during which time I have been making maintenance payments above and beyond what could be expected of me. During this time I have had to live in shared houses as I simply cannot afford to sustain my own place and make maintenence payments on my modest salary. I keep having to move as having a 3.5yr old running about the place on the weekends just isn't what my housemates have in mind when trying to relax! I also have a problem in that, I currently have to share my bed with my daughter when she comes to stay. I can't use the sofa as it means my housemate cannot use the living room on weekend evenings. I feel that she's getting to an age where this is no longer appropriate.
In short, I need my own place, but can't afford one whilst making payments to my former partner at the current level.
I base my monthly payment on the CSA calculator, and pay £180pm. I have my daughter 5 nights a month. My work allows for me to have her more, and this is something that I'm hopeful of if I had my own place. Can I legally pay my ex-girlfriend less maintenance to ensure that I can offer my daughter more stability in my relationship with her? If she went to CSA to persue an automated deduction of my salary, would they take my housing needs into consideration?
Something's got to give...I can't keep living like a transient student, and maintain an appropriate level of contact with my daughter.
Some accurate advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there,
The CSA calculator on line is pretty acurate to be fair, if you search for it on Google and fill in the wage you earn as well as the other items it ask's for it will give you a figure.
You don't have to pay any more than this unless you feel you can afford too.
You rent doesn't effect what you pay though unfortunately, the CSA work on a percentage of your wage only.
Darren
