Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

Been paying directly but CMS say I’m in arrears

Hi everyone need some advice

The CMS has contacted me, stating that I owe arrears including a fine fee for missed payments on collect and go. However, I have been making direct payments to my childs mum each month, even more than I would probably need to do because I’ve been in and out of work since Covid.

ive got bank statements that show these payments, but the CMS isn’t acknowledging them as part of my maintenance contributions.

I’m not sure how to proceed. I didn’t realise until more recently I was on the collect and go service but My child’s mum has been getting money from me. When I’ve told her what’s happening with cms shes told me to sort it out with them and I should’ve paid through them too so I still have to pay via cms?

Can I fight these arrears if I show proof of my payment?
