I have just been asked for £550 from the Child Support Agency for my son who is now 25 years old.
I originally paid until I was told that I did not owe anymore when he reached the age of 18.
Now, 7 years later, I am disabled and living on Pension Credit and told I need to pay them money that I do not have!
How can this be so, or even be legal is quite beyond me, surely if I still owed anything they should have asked me to pay years ago!
Can anyone advise me about this as it seems outrageous ...
Sorry, that title should have said: 'Asked for more money 7 years after' ...
Hi there
I'm sorry to hear about this, it seems quite common for them to make these reassessments after long periods of time.
Have you informed them that you are disabled and on pension credit?
You should ask for a written breakdown of where exActly the money is owed, you do have the right to appeal the decision which I would suggest that you do. Once you have appealed you should make an appointment and go and see your MP and ask them to help, they can refer your case to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
All the best
Hi There,
.
As Mojo has said this is becoming more common, at the moment CSA are closing all of thier cases to hand over to CMS, I imagine they are reviewing all of the old closed cases that show on thier system to "owe" money we have had a lot of people asking similar questions to yourself.
.
As Mojo says ask for a break down of the money they say you owe and review it, and appeal.
.
Good Luck and keep us posted.
