Ive got home to a letter saying I owe 4,708 arrears to the secretary of state, how can this be as ive always paid direct to my ex and have a letter to of proof
?
Hi There,
.
Where has the letter been sent from?
.
I would guess it's from CSA as they are closing all of thier cases to transfer them to CMS so seem to be picking up old out of date bits and chasing them, I would contact them and ask for more details including a break down of the amounts they say you owe.

Mate I know how you feel,im waiting until I get a reply off cms then I'm going to my mp , depending on what they say,Hate dealing with them because they don't listen to the father's!!...Stress stress Stress!!!...
Hi There,
.
CAB should be able to give you some guidence, but they may also need some further information, so unless they have already given you a break down of what they saay is owing they will possibly be limited with the advice they can give you.
.
I would try and speak to CSA today and ask them for verbal confirmation of what this money is related too, and then to post you a copy, then when you go to CAB you can at least give them further details.

Is your case prior to 2003? The system then, as I understand it, was that the state paid maintenance to the parent with care, and then claimed it back off the non resident parent, so this is possibly how ther arrears accrued.
My case is from 2004 I think ,I've been to the citizens advice and they spoke for me ,I was told to send all proof I've paid my ex .which I have a letter of her saying I'm a good dad and always paid her direct and never used the csa ,I've sent the letter RECORDED delivery and was told a case worker will look into it and they will be in touch but don't know when as they a very busy !. They are quick enough to send me a letter saying i owe arrears but when I get in touch they don't know anything about the case and have to look into it,So stressed Hate the csa !!!!
I would ring them every 2 weeks art least to ask if there is any progress, just to make sure they don't forget your case for a while.
I think I'm gonna wait until they get back to me as when I've called them they can't tell me anything,i know they are gonna still want money so I will go to my mp and fight this all the way !!!
Still waiting to hear from the cms , anyone else got arrears with the secretary of state?
There probably aren't so many of these cases around any more simply because it's getting to the stage where the children will have grown up. I'd still give them a regular call - the CSA are busy trying to clear cases ready to hand over to the CMS so it's easy for some cases to get forgotten.
They told me that They would get in touch with me , every time I've phoned they say we can't tell you anything!!!... Stressed !!!
make an appointment to see your MP asa soon as possible, so at least that process is started.
