Hi,
I have paid my ex-partner maintenance since we broke up 5 years ago, and been dealing with the CMS for about 4 years or so now.
Now, i went through a very difficult patch a few years ago where i was sadly made redundant and although I managed to find another job, it didn't pay anywhere near as much as i was previously earning.
Thankfully ages a few months i was fortunate enough to find my current job which is not only good but pays well too.
Now ive been arguing back and forth with the CMS about the arrears in maintenance that I owe for the time when I was unemployed and not earning enough to pay all my bills, let along maintenance as well.
The issue i have with the CMS is they are quite happy to tell me how much I owe in arrears and tell me how I should pay it back, but even after almost a year now they will still not tell me how all the arrears are worked out or even put it into writing for my own peace of mind.
all they say it that I habe to pay it as i owe the money.
im not disputing that I owe money, but I want to know what I can do to get this figure and have it checked. as i don't want to end up paying more than i owe as well as the face that ive had that much trouble with the CMS as well as a full financial review done and still had no feedback to the outcome.
any advice please.
should they tell me how its being worked out because how can I be expected to pay it all if they wont tell me how its worked out !
thank you
Have you tried putting your request in writing? If you stop dealing with them over the telephone and ask that all further communication be conduct in writing, then make a request for a full breakdown of the arrears and how the current figure was arrived at.
You can also make an official complaint, which might get a different response. If you're struggling, you could ask your MP to help.
