Arrears

I am having trouble covering this month's child maintenance payment. I have sent a letter explaining my extenuating circumstances to CMS. My question is what the CMS will do? I am happy to offer a payment plan to pay it off in a few month but not sure if that is an option. Also, will I be switched immediately to Collect and Pay? Should I just try to get a loan?

Regards,

Hi,

You should phone them, as well as message on CMS self service site. If they tell them you have trouble paying a months maintenance, they will likely put you into arrears, so you make backdated payment. Make sure their aware of your situation, otherwise they will think your refusing to pay, and cause problem's for you.

Always keep CMS up to date with things like this - if you are cooperating with them, they are likely to be more lenient if they can.
