Hi,
My son has effectively left school and tells me he will not be doing A Levels.
He wants to be an Electrican, and therefore needs to do an apprenticeship.
However, I am confused over CMS (who isn't?).
I thought that an apprenticeship does not count as Further Education?
but what if it is not paid?
Is a traineeship counted as further education.
What if the apprenticeship is paid for by an employer?
As you can imagine, the CMS were totally unhelpful.
But worse (and knowing my ex) - I doubt she will tell the CMS to close the case or the DWP and say she is nt entitled to Child Benefit from 1st September.
Can anyone be very specific on the above please?
Thanks
hi,
it sounds very frustrating. you can ask DWP/CMS to check if child benefit is still running. when that ends, then you should not be paying any more maintenance.
Your Child Benefit stops on 31 August on or after your child’s 16th birthday if they leave education or training. It continues if they stay in approved education or training, but you must tell the Child Benefit Office.
the approved courses or training are only approved if they are unpaid:
