Spurgeons and Dad.Info doesn’t investigate reports of abuse or neglect. But below, you can find advice on who to contact if you have concerns about a child or young person.

Reporting a concern

It can be difficult to know what to do if you think a child is at risk. It’s important to remember that if you’ve spotted things that don’t seem right, others will have too. Speaking up can make sure that child gets help as soon as possible.

The sooner you contact your local children’s social care duty team, the quicker they can act. They’re available 24 hours a day, and can make an anonymous report if that feels safer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call the police straight away by dialling 999.

Hello folks,

New to the forum but here to ask a question relating to my son and my grandson.

My son was 14 when he got the new girlfriend, also 14, pregnant.

They were both 15 when my grandson was born, back in 2008.

At the time we did some research and were told that the CSA would not be able to get involved with any child maintenance claim, then or in the future.

Can anyone confirm this?

They lived in my house, as a couple, for the first 3 years of my Grandsons life, before they split up. Over the past 9 years there has been very intermittent access, sometimes we've not seen him for years at a time. We don't know where the mum lives, though my son has been seeing his child on a Sunday recently.

Now the mum is claiming she wants more money, although my son has been paying an arranged amount for years. She's quoting a figure from the CMS website, etc.

Does anyone else have experience of this, regarding the ages of the parents at time of birth etc?

Hi,

I am only aware that either parent can make a new CMS claim if they want to. If the mother makes a claim next week, then CMS will expect the dad to make payments from the date the mother signed up with CMS.

They will not be backdating payments for x number of years. As both parents are adult age now, I don't see why CMS would be against maintenance payments going through them. You could ring them for advice.
