yes its not a nice position to be in.
they have a default rate, but from what i read, its only temporary until they find out exactly what your income is.
Gross weekly income Rate
Unknown or not provided
Default weekly amount: £38 for 1 child, £51 for 2 children, £61 for 3 or more children
if they just kept that as default for everyone, then that would be fair, and there would be a lot less people trying to fiddle the system and try to pay next to nothing.
Where did you get the default weekly amount from Bill? The general rule for a default position is to calculate the amount on one overnight stay per week, so the amount can vary, depending on gross income.
thats how it should be or bands if you earn 12k-25k a default payment the 25k to 50k 50k to 75k then 75k plus. the more you earn the more you get taxed. i dont want to dodge the system, i pay 50 per week, if i have too ill pay 100 per week but 200 per week is insane

its here mojo https://www.gov.uk/how-child-maintenance-is-worked-out/how-the-child-maintenance-service-works-out-child-maintenance
also in the paperwork cms sent me. they wrote stuff like if they dont know exactly what your earning, they would stick you on the default amount, until they work out your income.
Ah ok I get you, but as you’ve said, this is a temporary measure, until they have access to the correct information about income amount.
It also states that the paying parent might have to -
Pay a higher amount than they need to until they’re given the information they need to work out the correct amount.
Or pay extra child maintenance, to make up for the amounts they should have paid, before the correct amount was calculated.
