Hello,
I have informed Child Maintenance of birth of my daughter with my current partner. Both living with me. I've gave them evidence of this in form of the full birth certificate however they are stating they can not prove my newborn daughter lives with us. A couple of emails exchanged and Child maintenance have informed me they can not consider her unless we claim Child benefit for her. Is this right? Child benefit use the exact same document (birth certificate) to identity a newborn. Is this rule written anywhere?
We haven't claimed child benefit at the moment for a few reasons, not happy with sending every piece of data about us in the post and I'm on the limit for it with income so will be messing around with self assessment stuff for tax.
Thanks,
hi,
yes it seems they use child benefit as a reference point. you should apply for it ASAP, then let them know. They are part of DWP so would be able to check once you are getting child benefit.
