Assuming he lives in England, what is his plan for the next couple of years - there is a legal requirement for him to be in some kind of education or apprenticeship

https://www.gov.uk/know-when-you-can-leave-school

On the basis that he does comply with this, you would then be liable for child maintenance.

Hello Zaknumber1

Child Maintenance Options provide impartial information about the different ways that maintenance arrangements can be set up. They are not experts on the policies of the Child Maintenance Service and have no access to their cases.

As you mentioned that your ex-wife has contacted the Child Maintenance Service to set up your maintenance arrangement, you should contact them directly for any questions. You can contact them on 0800 171 2345 or visit the website, http://www.Gov.uk.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have a website, ‘Sorting out separation’. It aims to make it much easier for separating and separated parents (and childless couples) to find the support they need, when and where they need it, and encourages them to collaborate on a range of issues. The link is https://www.sortingoutseparation.org.uk/

Regards

William
