SUNDAY SCHOOL
Here we go again, going to church with no reason
Have to recap the sermon like it is school assignment
Just to show being attentive during the church service
Boarding school was no different
Beaten and harassed to attend evening bible studies
Such a shame for senior students who should know better
And then to claim to be born again
What a way through secondary school days
Now older perhaps a bit bolder
Is there a legacy to give those younger?
Be it Christian, Muslim or Hindu
Whether atheist, pagan or Krishna
Whatever works surely must be practice?
So I seek solace to hold to my faith
Since things of the past does not compel the present
Neither does the present predict the future
For each step may be a struggle
To juggle knowledge , faith and value
At least Sunday school is no longer a chore of the past
koka 2012
Nice prose, well written.
I was brought up going to church, having to sit through sermon not talking, drawing, writing; that is asking a lot of a early teen let alone a pre-teen. Was always a case of "do not", rather than "do".
Our kids are not being dragged to religious service but bring given an insight into all the main religions. I wa brought up christian, my wife muslim. Our children don't think one religion better them the other (yet anyway). Grandparents still trying to influence, one way or the other
Just a service
Not for masses
Yet we serve it
As if must have it
Put a farthing
Yields wealthy?
Does not deserve it
Because you have it
Sunday school service
wishful not rewarded
For all the classes
Doubters, crisis and vices
