Good afternoon everyone.

I've been pulled to one side by my eight year old son's teacher today as yesterday he had been disrespectful towards teachers and other class mates.

After having a chat with him, he is telling me younger boys are making fun of him, to which he doesn't retaliate, but then let's of steams towards other people by the sounds of it.
Obviously il go back to school tomorrow and talk with his teacher but how do you deal with bullying in this day and age? even in year four I'm sure my dad would say just lamp them. (Whilst it would work I'm sure sure it's right for year 4 primary school)

It's alright saying, just ignore it, if it's all the time you can't ignore it. He isn't the type of lad for confrontation and is usually quite sensitive.
The last thing I need is it ruining his school work as he's already behind

I need to boost his confidence when it comes to these things, he is always shy and when he meets someone completely new he shuts off and it looks like he's being grumpy towards people.

I kind of feel helpless in these situations as he's just as quiet as me

He's 8. And I have spoken to him, he's reluctant to open up, that's the issue

Hi possle, I would recommend having a meeting with your son's class teacher and teaching assistant to explain that he is being bullied, This is completely unacceptable and the school has a duty of care on this one and therefore must act upon this. Would your son be ok talking about it to them?

I would imagine that this is why your son is being disrespectful to his teachers, as it is a way of getting his frustrations out. Hopefully, once the teacher knows the full story and puts things in place to support him, his attitude will change toward them for the better.

I know of people who would also say just lamp them but in this day and age, you land up excluded from school which then causes a whole load of other issues.
