Can anyone help, my daughter has recently started licking herself constantly. As a result all round her mouth is becoming very red and sore looking. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully this will be a phase, I would try to ignore it and apply some barrier cream to protect the skin around her mouth, although you will need to make sure it will be ok for this area, perhaps some lip balm.
If she is under 5 years old it might be a good idea to talk to your Health Visitor or if she is older your GP.
Hi there,
This must be worrying for you, when you say she is licking herself where exactly does she lick herself? I definately think it would be a good idea to talk to a professional about this. It could be anxiety related.
Hi There,
I think this is just a phase, it could be down to anxiety or simply habbit, she has started it and so keeps doing it without thinking.
My step son goes through similar, he licks the edge of his mouth and makes it sore, we ask him to stop (when we see him doing it) and he tends stop. Though he is older.
