hello,
I've contacted the child maintenance service and they're giving different information to what's on any website about when to stop paying.
Almost all sites mention that payments stop once the child is 16 or 20 if they're in higher education, but not one site suggests if the child in question, doesn't go to college (higher education) nor has any desire to go into work. My son will be 18 in 2 months and quit basic college almost straightaway and has no desire to start working.
for this reason, am i still entitled to pay child maintenance until he's 20?
thanks in advance.
hi,
what CMS like to do is check if the child benefit case is active. if still active then they will expect you to carry on paying maintenance. if child stays in full-time approved education, then have to pay maintenance. if they leave full-time education or go to university, then maintenance stops.
