School run help

Hi. I am a father of three daughters aged 4, 5 and 7 . I am separated from their mum and we never married and I just see them at weekends. My problem is that my ex does not have much family support and if one of the kids is ill or she’s not well she rings me to do school run. This would be fine but I work full time and she lives an hour away so I have to take a half day. My manager is not very happy about me booking off last minute and I am on my probation period and worried my contract will not be renewed. I have lost my last job for the same reason . My question is whether anyone knows if there could be any support that could be obtained from the school for emergencies like this. They are occurring nearly twice a month now and I do want my kids to attend school. My ex doesn’t appear to have friends or family that are willing to help. I can’t refuse as I get the call once the children are at school. She doesn’t work and is on benefits. I can not lose my job as need the money to support my kids but I can’t see any employer being happy about this situation much longer. Thanks Jacc

hi,

I think it would be her responsibility to make sure children attend school. if she is not well she can get a family member or close friend to take them to school, a nanny/child minder? or she can explain to school that she has been unwell so unable to take them to school.
