Interesting article re the current backlogs, often trying to resolve things outside of court is better (or quicker):

yes, family courts are at breaking point. they saying that people should not be coming to court for child disputes, just because their relationship broke down. should be settled outside court/mediation. seems like more reforms will be happening. the last time I was in court, they did not even ask me for proof that I attended mediation.

A judge wouldn't usually ask for proof that you've attended mediation. It's usually down to the gatekeeper to check the form has been filled out correctly and mediation has been attended or the applicant is exempt.
