Confusion

Been married 11 years, found out a week after our anniversary that my wife had been cheating on me. The affair is still ongoing. I am near ready to move out of the family home. We have 2 children together, both under 10, and she has 2 older children from previous relationships, (16 and 13).

I own my own business, and have been told by solicitors that the business is safe due to the low equity and reliance on my own personal finance.

She is £8000 in debt, i also have my own financial debts, so i am not sure if we would both be liable for each others shortcomings.

The two older children have said on multiple occasions to me that they would want to come and live with me, and will visit every day after school. The eldest child has my name by deed poll. Would i be required to pay maintenance for her even though i am not on the birth certificate. She is going to Six form in september.

Hi,

You would normally  be expected to pay maintenance for children that are biologically yours. If you legally gained Parental Responsibility over the step children, then you may be liable to pay maintenance for them.
