CMS question

I am trying to get hold of CMS on 08001712345. Jesus its hard work. Been on hold 50 minutes now.

I don't have an online account as we use the settle ourselves method. I can't do as they're suggesting on the call.

I only want to ask a simple question for clarification of information on the gov.uk website.

My child is 17, at college and studying a BTEC. Can I under any obligation to carry on paying his mother? Or can I start transferring this money elsewhere for him?

Hopefully its a simple answer to a simple question from someone who has been through this personally

Thank you in advance

hi, if your paying via CMS, you should have access to an online account. you can ask them to give you login details. but in general, if child benefit is active, this means his btec course is approved education, and CMS would expect you to carry on paying maintenance.

Child Maintenance is due until their 20th birthday if in approved secondary or further full-time education.

It is extremely important you continue to pay the other parent if on Direct Pay or the CMS if on Collect and Pay to avoid enforcement action. You can of course make voluntary payments to your child at your sole discretion but these will be regarded as gifts by the CMS.

For example, I paid my daughters for driving lessons directly as a separate agreement to my CMS payments.
