Hi All,
Struggling to find this answer. I have two 18yo children who live with their mother. One is at college on an approved course and the other at 6th form.
The child at college is moving in with her boyfriend as they have just got a flat together. What happens with regards to child maintenance for her?
Thanks in advance
hi,
by the looks of things you would need to carry on paying maintenance as long as the child is on the approved college course. It's closely tied to child benefit.
CMS would likely advise you that as long as child benefit case is open, you would need to pay maintenance. Maintenance stops if they do a uni (advanced) course. child benefit stops if they claim benefits themselves, for example.
all the rules are explained here:
Thank you Bill.
I can see that it says child benefit must be informed straightaway if the young person marries or co-habits. I shall give them a call
