[Solved] Child support irritating requests

Good evening chaps,

Long storey short I have a 5 year old daughter that I pay weekly child support (every Friday) privately

Whats irritating is my ex frequently asks for the money to be put in early sometimes on the same week! E.g I will get a text on a Sunday asking for money to put transferred early 2 days after paying her on Friday night in agreement that following Friday i don't pay and I normally say yes to keep the peace but I get anxious because I'm very much a saver and very organised with money.

What are your thoughts has anybody had this issue?

Hi Danbruno1105,

Are your payments based on a calculation by CMS?

I think in either instance, just drafting a short message to your ex explaining that you'll be setting up a standing order for the payments going forward is most sensible. It takes the emphasis off of 'you' being the person refusing to make payments early at her bequest.

You could even put a slant on it that you also don't want your child to miss out on a given week because you've accidentally forgotten to pay on time etc. A standing order removes the human error in these matters.

Trust this helps, CD.

you should just pay to cover a whole month.

I agree with the above - if your payments are in line with CMS, I would suggest that you open a case with them (costs Β£20 one off fee) and let them assess is and then pay the amount and dates they suggest. Make sure that the bank payments - whether now or via CMS - state child maintenance in the reference, as this can save you a lot of hassle in the future.

Lol she said weekly is better because of 5 week months,

If I pay set amount every month she misses out of a 5 week month

you could just set up a standing order every week. and stick to paying once a week. if you sign with CMS, they give you a choice of paying weekly or monthly like the 25th of each month.

People usually pay by standing order on either a weekly, fortnightly, 4 weekly or monthly basis. If paying monthly, you would multiply the amount by 52 and then divide by 12 so she wouldn't 'miss out on a 5 week month'.
As has been said, good to get your liability calculated by CMS

Did you point out that she gets more that 4 weeks worth on 4 week months? πŸ˜€
