Hi all.
I'm currently unemployed and about to start claiming JSA. I have arrears on my CMS payments.
I have a mortgage and my house does have some equity in it, but not much. I've read some things online about the CMS being able to take your house. Is this true and if so, at what stage does it have to get to for this to happen?
Thanks for your help.
hi,
after you apply for JSA, you need to tell CMS asap. they are linked to DWP, so they should automatically be notified of your JSA claim anyway. JSA valid for 6 months.
no, CMS can not seize a house that you live in/primary residence.
if you have lot of arrears, you should be able to contact CMS and negotiate a payment plan. default is they can spread arrears repayments over 2 years, making it more affordable for you.
