Alton Towers Resort, the UK’s largest theme park, opens.

World’s fastest rollercoaster, Formula Rossa, opens in Abu Dhabi, reaching a top speed of 150mph.

2013

The Smiler, the world’s first 14-loop rollercoaster, is launched at Alton Towers, achieving a Guinness World Record.
