London calling…
There’s a new Assassin’s Creed coming, and it will be set in Victorian London.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the latest in the long-running stealth-and-slash series, will be released on 23 October for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the game’s publisher Ubisoft has announced. A PC release is set for release “this autumn” says Ubisoft.
Following on from last year’s pretty-but-flawed Assassin’s Creed Unity, this new title switches the action from Revolution-era Paris to smoke and crime-filled London in 1868.
The game has two central playable characters, twins Jacob and Evie Frye. The pair have very different characteristics; Ubisoft says Jacob is “a determined, hot-headed and rebellious leader” while Evie is “a master of stealth and control”.

Among the new features on show in the launch trailers include the ability to ride horse-drawn carriages around the capital. Ubisoft says trains will also feature, and will be rideable.
Of course, getting around in any Assassin’s Creed is more about your parkour skills than hitching a ride, and free-running is sure to be as prominent as ever in Syndicate. A rope launcher will make it speedy to scale tall Victorian buildings, and it can also be used to zip-line from rooftop to rooftop.
New weapons include brass knuckles, a kukri knife, a revolver and the Assassin’s gauntlet. You can also expect to meet prominent Victorians during the story: Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin are among those featured.
Ubisoft says Syndicate will offer “the largest, most modern open-world city ever created in an Assassin’s Creed game”.
“The ability to lead an underground gang, commandeer any vehicle on hand and use modern tools to take on an expansive and fast-paced Victorian London sets this game apart,” said Marc-Alexis Côté, Creative Director at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been in development for more than two years and this new modern take on the living open world will please Assassin’s Creed fans and newcomers alike.”
The game is single player only – with none of the multiplayer options that have featured in previous Assassin’s Creed titles.
